About Me
Sheila McJilton
I am a “trying to retire” Episcopal priest who loves preaching, liturgy, creative writing and one who has what you might call an edgy sense of humor. I am a musician (singer), and my creative writing abilities include writing sermons (of course), poetry and reflective essays. I am also learning to quilt, having begun to learn that craft during the past two years.
I was raised a Southern Baptist, and became Episcopalian as an adult. Why?
I love www.episcopalchurch.org because it does not require that you leave your brains at the door. I love the fact that we offer ancient worship that has real and practical applications in your life.
I also love church because it can be a kind of instant family. Some you love, some you don't, some make you nervous. Nonetheless, it's community.
Wherever you are in your spiritual journey, I get it. Whether you’re a person with faith, one without, one struggling with your faith or spirituality, I get it. I have my own questions about God and spirituality. I just don’t think I always know the answers. I’ll leave those to God.
I am currently at home in Laurel, Maryland, recently retired as the rector/pastor of St. Philip's Episcopal Church www.stphilipslaurel.org in Laurel, Maryland www.cityoflaurel.org, in the Diocese of Washington.
So what do I do now?
I am a trained personal and clergy coach. I can work with church leaders, leadership teams, business leaders, and anyone who just wants to live into their fullest gifts and potential. Each person already has the gifts and knowledge they need to live into that potential. I would love to help you do that.
If you want to contact me, my email is mothersheila@gmail.com. I would love to hear from you.
Sheila
p.s. This blog has my own personal thoughts and beliefs. As noted above, I often have more questions than answers. I just trust that God has the answers, and I’ll keep asking questions. If you enjoy reading my thoughts, please feel free to share with others. Thank you.
